As part of a €14 million investment plan, Sepec is taking a major new step forward in the development of its digital printing capacities.
This ambitious project includes the commissioning, by the end of summer 2026, of a brand-new 6,800 m² facility entirely dedicated to digital printing. The company's historic production site, located just a short distance from the new plant, will then be devoted exclusively to offset printing operations.
At the heart of this project is a commitment to staying closely aligned with developments in the publishing market, optimizing workflows, improving performance and production capacity, and achieving a significant leap forward in color print quality.
To meet these objectives, the new production site will house several major strategic investments, beginning with a Canon ProStream color inkjet press in a roll-to-roll configuration.
Selected following a rigorous evaluation process and extensive comparative testing based on offset-printed books, this press stood out for its exceptional color reproduction quality, truly comparable to offset printing across a wide range of coated and uncoated papers.
The Canon ProStream will be complemented by a complete new Müller Martini finishing line—including a SigmaLine Compact, an Antaro Digital binder equipped with endpaper insertion, and an InfiniTrim variable-data trimmer—enabling highly efficient and fully automated print-on-demand production.
These investments will allow Sepec Numérique to offer high-quality short-run color printing and make it possible to reprint, in small quantities, color titles originally produced using offset printing.
Additional Kallfass wrapping equipment and Solema palletizing systems will complete this third production line, enabling full automation of paperback book manufacturing from paper roll to palletized finished product.
At the same time, the production line built around the HP T240 press will be upgraded with a dual unwinder, a Müller Martini SigmaLine Compact finishing line, and a Solema palletizer.
The HP T260 production line will retain its current configuration, including a dual unwinder, a SigmaLine III finishing system, and a Solema palletizer.
The investments made to acquire these new machines have benefited from financial support from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and from the French government through the France 2030 program.
